	Thank You!
By Christopher Deal

To those who remember that a simple thank you goes a long way!

Page 1
Along the side of roads and highways all over the world,

Page 2
there are leaves waiting to be seen and noticed.
(Illustration of leaf on side of the road)

Page 3
On one particular fall day,

Page 4
there was a leaf who was given another chance to be seen by anyone who would pay attention.

Page 5
(Illustration of car entering the page)

Page 6
Oh how the leaf was so very excited. For it had never been noticed by anyone.

Page 7
(Car illustration continues to come into the page)

Page 8
There hadnt been a car in days to pass by.

Page 9
(Car illustration continues to come into the page)

Page 10
Today would be different though.

Page 11
See. There had been many leaves that

Page 12
would lay flat, would stand tall, would sway, and would pose anytime a vehicle would approach in hopes that they would be noticed. Sometimes, one leaf would get the attention of a passerby. The feeling of being noticed was immediately seen on the chosen leaf. The leaf would sway more; not look so withered; and would seem to get more energy from the tree which it was born.

Page 13
(Car illustration continues to come into the page)

Page 14
She longed to be seen.

Page 15
Days and weeks would go by, yet noone would ever notice her. Noone would ever picked her out of the others. Noone ever thought she mattered.

Page 16
(Illustration of the leaf in a modest stance)

Page 17
As long as she could remember, being seen was always what she wanted. She wanted to know if she mattered to anyone.

Page 18
(Illustration of the lead in a modest stance)

Page 19
Even on those days when the heat beat down on her, she knew deep down she had the energy to be seen. She knew she had the energy to do what the others had done at various times in the past.
(Illustration of the sun beating down)

Page 20
(Illustration of leaf)

Page 21
(Illustration of storm clouds)

Page 22
Even when the clouds filled with danger and presented a light show like no other, (Leaf in modest stance in storm)

Page 23
(Illustration of storm)

Page 24
She worked even harder to get the attention of anyone passing by her. She knew she could withstand any storm.

Page 25
(Illustration of storm with cars passing by)

Page 26
But, for so long, she wasnt observed by anyone.

Page 27
As the days and weeks passed,

Page 28
(Illustration of leaf alone on side of the street)

Page 29
(Illustration of pavement with no vehicle)

Page 30
so did the hope that she would be seen.

Page 31
The days went continued to go by.

Page 32
(Illustration of leaf alone on side of the street)

Page 33
(Illustration of pavement with no vehicle)

Page 34
And, so did the people who would pass by in their cars.

Page 35
As the weather became cooler and eventually much colder.
(Illustration of the cold with the leaf brittle)

Page 36
the glimmer of hope was fading within her.

Page 37
But, something was about to happen. On this day, she could see another car approaching. She perked up as she did previously. Bus, something was different today.

Page 38
(Illustration of the leaf by herself on the side of the road with the car approaching in the distance with a boys head out the window)

Page 39
What our leaf did not know was that there was a little boy who wanted to be seen, as well.

Page 40
(Closer picture of boy in the backseat and the leaf in the distance)
He was not like all the other kids, and he knew it.

Page 41
He knew that he acted differently then other kids.

Page 42
He knew that he had a hard time keeping still.

Page 43
He knew that he might not have been as smart as the other kids, may not have looked the same as the other kids, and may not have spoken the same way as the other kids.

Page 44
He kept questioning in his heart if it was OK to be different. He just wanted to be seen, heard, and if what he said mattered to anyone. Anyone.

Page 45
Like the leaf, kids and adults would often ignore him even though he was always right there next to them in the same room.

Page 46
He really was no different than they were, but they made he believe he was.

Page 47
He just wanted to be seen and appreciated.

Page 48
As the car approached the leaf, our leaf decided to give it one last try to be seen.

Page 49
The car came side by side with the leaf. Then it happened. The boys eyes locked in on the leaf. Upon seeing the leaf, the boys face lit up with a smile.
(Illustration of boy locking eyes on the leaf)

Page 50
The leaf knew it. She knew she had been noticed by the boy.

Page 51
And, the boy,he knew the leaf had noticed him .

Page 52
And for that moment in time, he heard the faint sound of the leaf say Thank you! Thank you for noticing me!

Page 53
When she thought no one was ever going to notice her, someone did.

Page 54
And from that day forward, our leaf never gave up hope on herself

Page 55
because she knew that she was noticed and appreciated.

Page 56
And, for our boy,

Page 57
He realized that just as much as he wanted to be seen,

Page 58
sometimes noticing others is just as rewarding. From that day forward, the little boy quit worrying about who would notice or not notice him. He made the effort to notice the good in others. He looked for the qualities that made them unique. He made every effort to pay attention to those who were different. He realized the strength in being unique.
