Chapter 1
The White Houses
There once was a very good Spanish Senorita called Margarita.
She loved to dance; every hour of every day.
The people in her Spanish village loved to see her dancing.
Every day Margarita would go to the beautiful village square and begin to dance around the water fountain.
Everyone would come to the balconies of their white painted houses to watch her. She was especially skilful when she fluttered the fan. It seemed that the fan was a part of her hand.
Margarita always wore very colourful Spanish dresses. Her favourite ones had lots of nice yellow flowers on them. The colour of her fan was bright yellow too.
One morning when Margarita was walking to the village square she looked at her faithful fan. She noticed that the bright colouring had started to fade. She wondered if it was time to get a new fan, even though she had used it for so many happy years.
That day, as she was dancing she noticed something very unusual.
The fan seemed to be dripping of sweat; as if it were crying!
Chapter 2
The Fan is alive
That night Margarita was in her bright yellow bedroom. She was trying to decide which dress to wear the following day. Suddenly, her bright yellow fan came alive and began to speak to her!
Please don t change me. We have shared so many good years together. Please, please don t throw me away.
Margarita was shocked and began to cry too. It really was you crying today, I thought it was sweat! She said.
Yes Margarita, replied the yellow fan from its small mouth that had just appeared. I was crying because I love dancing with you and I could never be happy living without you.
The yellow fan continued to look at Margarita through its new tiny blue eyes; they were full of tears.
Margarita picked up the bright yellow fan from her bed. Yes, you are right, she said, we have had many happy years together. I can even remember all the lovely music that we danced to.
Margarita stared at the yellow fan through her big bright green eyes and then rubbed it gently against her red rosy cheeks Do you really want to stay with me? She asked.
The yellow fan was exited and replied, Nothing would make me happier than to stay with you Margarita.
Margarita thought for a moment and then said in a soft voice, I am so sorry, I have been unkind to you, I did not realise that you were alive!
Margarita then stopped crying and said, I have decided to keep you as my favourite fan and I will wear my yellow dresses and dancing shoes every day as well.
The yellow fan was very happy, Thank you Margarita for keeping me as a friend, It said. The fine yellow cloth of my body will match your clothes perfectly. Look, even my handle is yellow.
Now I know you re alive said Margarita, I will have to give you a name. Let me think& I know; I will call you Rose because my favorite flower is the yellow rose. My mama said it is the flower of friendship.
Rose was so happy that she had a name. I will never forget this day as long as I live, she said it really is very special to have my own name.
Now we are real dancing friends. Let s dance to celebrate, cheered Margarita.

Chapter 3
A Yellow Room for Dancing
To make a dance floor in her bedroom Margarita had to move all of her bedroom furniture.
She moved the big round yellow table, she moved all the yellow chairs, she moved her big yellow bed and lastly she moved all her yellow pots and cups from the yellow play kitchen.
Now we have plenty of room, shall we dance? Margarita asked Rose.
Yes Margarita, I would love to dance with you, replied Rose.
So Margarita and Rose began to dance, they were so happy. Margarita s long black hair swished and swirled as if it were dancing also.
Margarita and Rose danced together forever.
