The Institute of Home Economics is a constituent college of the University of Delhi and has been offering education to young women since 1961. The college is uniquely positioned among the other colleges in the same cohort because it offers programmes at a variety of levels: undergraduate, masters, post-graduate diploma and doctoral. There exists a strong culture of research and a commitment to community participation, which helped it get a NAAC A grade and Star college as well as FIST grant in the past two years. The courses offered at the college include: Home Science and its allied disciplines, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Food Technology, Journalism and Elementary Education.  The college is committed to empower students to contribute to the intellectual, professional and capacity building endeavours of the nation.

Eklavya Foundation

Eklavya Foundation is a non-government registered society that was set up in 1982 to actively seed and develop academic programmes for curricular change in elementary education, at the micro level, and mainstream them through government and non-government agencies. Starting from shouldering the academic responsibilities of the landmark Hoshangabad Science Teaching Programme (HSTP), it developed and implemented the innovative Social Science Teaching Programme and the Primary Education Programme (PRASHIKA) in the government schools of Madhya Pradesh. Eklavya collaborated with the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) in developing the National Curriculum Framework (NCF) 2005 and the syllabuses and textbooks based on the NCF, and provided support to the State Councils of Educational Research and Training (SCERTs) of Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh in developing curricula and textbooks in various subject areas.

Eklavya works with the community in about 100 villages in five districts of Madhya Pradesh to run learning centres (Shiksha Protsahan Kendras) for first generation school-goers. These attempt to enhance community involvement in education and build linkages with the government schools to demand quality and efficiency. These field experience have also led us to provide academic support to educational programmes of fraternal organisations like NEG-Fire, Pradan, Reliance Foundation and World Vision India, Foundation for Ecological Security and Transforming Rural India Foundation.

Teacher professional development is another area that Eklavya is engaged with through research, material development and conducting teacher capacity building workshops and courses.

Through these efforts, Eklavya works towards its vision of ‘Meaningful education for all to build an egalitarian and just society on the path of sustainable development.’
