Linking Community and Schools towards Quality Education

We work to create geo-culturally localized curriculum, develop content to help acquire language, science, social science, and maths, work with the schools system to improve the teaching-learning and dream of a holistic education system where children, community and parents are equal stakeholders with the state and other players. In Khed (Rajgurunagar) tehsil of Pune district, in the first phase, we work in about thirty villages dotting the Western Ghats. The programme consists of working with the community to create community-based teaching-learning spaces (called as Shiksha Protsahan Kendra), mobilizing community for effective participation in the School Management Committees, developing capabilities of the primary school teachers in child-centred pedagogy and development and use of TLMs, use of library etc to effectively move from traditional TEACHING to a dynamic-holistic LEARNING. At the village level, the community has selected a volunteer to run the SPK centres and to provide operational support.  

We have a team in place at Khed and field centres, and looking for new people to strengthen the initiative. In this phase, we are working with children from class 1 to 5 (primary schools) on language and maths capabilities development.    

Position: Project Assistant (2 positions) (for programme operations and academic support)

Location: Khed (Pune) and or Amboli/ Mandoshi/ Shirgaon (cluster centres)  

  1. Assistance in all review, reporting and monitoring activities
  2. Planning and review of the education activities in SPKs; provide inputs, and hands-on support to the SPK volunteer in running the centre
  3. Engage in development of teaching-learning tools for language and maths at primary level
  4. Co-work, and develop a child-centric educational eco-system at SPKs
  5. Document the processes carried out at SPKs, and villages
  6. Mobilize community, and parents for effective functioning of SMCs, formation and activation of SPK committees.
  7. Regular visits to a cluster of 4-6 SPKs/villages for overseeing, and hands-on support
  8. Liaison and mobilize/network with government school teachers for seamless adaptation of project philosophies and perspectives
  9. Work in a team in development of baseline assessment, continuous comprehensive evaluation, and preparing analytical reports.
  10. Collect data/information, process/analyse and prepare reports
  11. Plan and carry out all the activities like Bal Mela, camps, workshops etc.
  12. Provide support to Project Associate and Project In-Charge in operations, reports preparation, admin and logistics, office and field centres running
  13. This is a generic profile we are looking for, and the precise profile will be dependent on the knowledge, skills, and competencies of the candidate/s.     

Qualifications and other desirables:

  • Graduates / post-graduates, possessing interest and abilities to work with students, teachers and community.
  • Candidate should have proficiency in verbal and written communications (must possess good command over English & Hindi apart from Marathi).
  • Group facilitation, and team building
  • Hands-on experience of using MS-Office and especially spreadsheets/excel
  • Candidate must be prepared to travel within / outside the state as and when required.
  • Candidates with some experience will be preferred.

Gross Salary: Rs. 20,000 – 25,000 per month
(CTO includes health-accident insurance and other social securities)
